Bridges/Gates - 1, 2026
Wooden Shelf, Books, Single Channel Video, Chicken Wire
Bridges/Gates investigates the way in which we learn about our environment through conversation, recorded stories (books), and institutions. Part one is an aggregate of this knowledge, inviting the audience to browse varying perspectives of “ecology” and its relation to Black life.
Ryan Webber (b. Jamaica) is an artist, engineer, and curator whose work and research center on communal learning. Through his practice, Ryan constructs sub-spaces for learning, attention, and dis-reality, conceptually through systems theory and concretely through conversation, curatorial arrangement, video, and sound. He hopes these new and derived environments allow us to pause, reconnect with our spirit of learning, and question the world that demands more of us every day. Ryan’s work has been showcased at LMCC on Governor’s Island, Onassis ONX, Cherry St Pier, the Dumbo Projection Project series, New York Transit Museum, the Clive Davis Gallery, and New York University. Ryan is currently a graduate student at New York University and earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Stony Brook University. His current interests are Jamaican visual art history, analyzing subversive systems, libraries, and live audio-reactive visuals.
